Purines and Gout…Some Facts:

Purines and gout seem to be getting a lot of attention these days. Gout is one of humankind’s oldest known diseases.

The connection of purines and gout is a high blood level of uric acid, which is the by-product from the breakdown of purine, which is found naturally in all the cells of your body, and the bodies of every animal and in all plants.

There are high concentrations of purines in certain foods, the most well-known being organ meats, like liver, brains, kidney and sweetbreads, and others like anchovies, herring and mackerel. Small amounts of purine are found in all meats, fish, and poultry. Meat drippings and gravies are especially good at bringing on an attack of gout.

Hey Bert,

I’m getting pretty cocky of late. I love muscles and lobster, but I’m still afraid of them. I haven’t had an attack in almost a year! Should I try these items or avoid them all together?

Thanks for all that you do for us.

Ted

Purines and Gout: Too Much or Poor Elimination?

Ideally, uric acid stays in solution in your blood and passes through your kidneys into your urine. Sometimes our bodies produce too much uric acid but more often they have difficulty eliminating enough uric acid. In this case, uric acid  builds up and forms sharp, needle-like crystals in joints or surrounding tissue, which causes pain, inflammation and swelling.

It is for this reason that focusing on purines for gout management is misguided.  You would be better off to focus on creating great kidney health!

Remember: Purines are a minor player in the gout equation.

Bert Middleton

“I know your pain. Let me help you kill your gout for good!  And teach you to advocate for yourself and take ownership of your gout recovery, by showing you how to live the gout-free lifestyle.” Two decades ago, Bert Middleton found himself diagnosed with gout. Like 8.3 million other people in the United States (approximately 4% of the population), he struggled helplessly with the physical, emotional, social, and financial impact that gout left unchecked can have on your life. Prescription drugs were of limited help… And the terrible pain of regular gout attacks left him unable to enjoy even the simplest daily pleasures. His marriage was suffering. His finances were spiraling due to the impact gout had on his ability to work. And maintaining a social life was often nearly impossible. Tophi surgeries left him in terrible pain.  And he found himself depressed … and angry … that gout was stealing years of his life.

Until one day, after hundreds of hours of research and self-experimentation, Bert finally had a breakthrough and created a blueprint for a way of living that would prove to be “the answer” to living gout-free for nearly a decade now. Today, Bert and his “Gout Wife” Sharon devote their evenings and weekends to educating other gout sufferers on how to live the gout-free lifestyle. Showing others his 911 Emergency Response Gout Recovery Plan for getting PAINFUL gout attacks under control in as little as 4 hours. And then, how to make daily choices that keep gout under control for GOOD! So you can finally start LIVING again!
