Gout pain is the worst kind of pain a person can feel. Even with the slightest touch, it brings on that burning, stabbing pain. This is because crystallized uric acid with countless needle-like points, bury themselves into the connective tissues that make up your joints. And once the pain hits, you can’t think of anything else but how to get rid of this torturous gout pain.

Here are some ideas about how people get gout pain relief; this is a rundown on some of the best – and worst – ways to get relief. Check out the list below and do what you’ve got to do to get the gout relief you need.

Cortisone Shot? (yikes!)

Although one of the fastest ways to get rid of gout pain is with a cortisone shot, I don’t like to recommend it. Messing with our hormones and endocrine system by adding extra synthetic hormones is never a good idea.

On the other hand, extreme situations call for extreme measures. If you’ve let this go too long and it’s turned into a dire emergency and you have to have immediate relief, go ahead and visit your doctor. He/she will most likely inject cortisone in the inflamed joints, making the pain go away relatively quickly. However, when used for an extended period of time, cortisone may damage your body.

Ice (yes)

If you can’t visit your doctor right away and you want to get gout relief at the comfort of your home, putting an ice pack on the painful area is one great option. Apply towel-wrapped ice packs on the affected area for 15 minutes at a time. This is helpful as it will numb the joint and help bring down the pain. Ice acts as an anti-inflammatory.

Epsom Salt (yes)

This is one of the most common home remedies that can help alleviate gout pain. Epsom salt contains magnesium, which helps lower blood pressure and improves circulation. Add 2 cups of Epsom salt in warmish water and soak your feet until the water cools off. Alternating between Epsom salt soaks and towel-wrapped ice packs is one of my standard recommendations.

Prescription Medications (???)

Prescription medications like febuxostat and allopurinol are designed to lower uric acid in your body. They are classified as “xanthine oxidase inhibitors”. Despite this benefit, allopurinol causes various side effects for some percentage of individuals. It goes without saying, these medications can only be obtained with a prescription and should only be taken under a doctor’s direction.

Stop Gout Pain Now

Specific anti-inflammatory drugs like indomethacin and are used at the time of an attack to get gout relief. Indomethacin, like generic ibuprofen, are “NSAIDs” – non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs while colchicine is not. There are other anti-inflammatory drugs that get used in other parts of the world but colchicine, ibuprofen, and endomethacin are the most commonly used ones here in the US.

☆ Bottom-Line:  There are a number of ways to deal with gout pain – both holistic and allopathic – but using natural methods is always best in the long run.

Bert Middleton

“I know your pain. Let me help you kill your gout for good!  And teach you to advocate for yourself and take ownership of your gout recovery, by showing you how to live the gout-free lifestyle.” Two decades ago, Bert Middleton found himself diagnosed with gout. Like 8.3 million other people in the United States (approximately 4% of the population), he struggled helplessly with the physical, emotional, social, and financial impact that gout left unchecked can have on your life. Prescription drugs were of limited help… And the terrible pain of regular gout attacks left him unable to enjoy even the simplest daily pleasures. His marriage was suffering. His finances were spiraling due to the impact gout had on his ability to work. And maintaining a social life was often nearly impossible. Tophi surgeries left him in terrible pain.  And he found himself depressed … and angry … that gout was stealing years of his life.

Until one day, after hundreds of hours of research and self-experimentation, Bert finally had a breakthrough and created a blueprint for a way of living that would prove to be “the answer” to living gout-free for nearly a decade now. Today, Bert and his “Gout Wife” Sharon devote their evenings and weekends to educating other gout sufferers on how to live the gout-free lifestyle. Showing others his 911 Emergency Response Gout Recovery Plan for getting PAINFUL gout attacks under control in as little as 4 hours. And then, how to make daily choices that keep gout under control for GOOD! So you can finally start LIVING again!
