…To Keep From Getting Gout.
The alkaline foods conversation always has to be included when you’re talking about gout. The foods we eat, and the fluids we drink, are either alkaline-forming…or acid-forming.
What Are “Alkaline Foods”?
Whether something is “acid” or “alkaline” is measured in “pH” – Potential of Hydrogen.
Acid-forming foods add hydrogen ions to the body and alkaline water or alkaline-forming foods remove it. You want to be REMOVING hydrogen ions!
This is measured by a pH scale that goes from 0 (completely acidic) to 14 (completely alkaline). Plain city tap water is around 7.0. Our blood should stay between 7.35 and 7.40.
To learn more about how the pH of foods can be either FRIEND or FOE in the
war on gout, check out my ebook Kill Your Gout NOW!
Again…Alkaline Foods…”So What?”
Here is my simple explanation:
- If you’ve got gout, you’ve got too much uric acid, you’re too “Acidic”.
- You need to eat more alkaline foods to make your pH balance out.
Any questions? Good.
- What foods are alkaline-forming and which are acid-forming?
- How much of one or the other should I eat?
Perfect. Here’s a quick little list to point you in the right direction.

Hi Bert,
The “remedy” of BS and ACV worked immediately as you said it would. A steady diet of banana-blueberry smoothies, green tea and celery on Day 2 has kept the swelling down. Not sure what caused the flare up as we eat a lot of fresh fruit and vegetables, lean beef, chicken and fish, and moderate alcohol use. Your theory of too much acid, possibly caused by stress, makes sense. Will try lemon-infused water to make my body more alkaline – plus continue the bananas, celery and cherries. Other ideas welcome. The drugs the doctor prescribed were making me sick, so your remedy (other than the ACV ? was a welcome relief.

Acid-forming
- fats and oils: coconut, olive, flax, corn, lard
- grains: wheat, barley, oats, rye, rice, corn, spelt
- nuts and butters: peanuts, cashews, pecans, tahini
- meat: beef, fish, pork, shrimp, turkey, venison
- chemicals: prescription drugs, pesticides, herbicides
- alcohol: beer, wine, liquor
- beans: pinto, black, lentils, soy, green beans
- waters: distilled, reverse osmosis
- dairy: cow or goat cheeses, milks, and butters
Alkaline-forming
- vegetables: carrots, broccoli, beets, celery, cauliflower, onions
- fruits: apples, avocados, bananas, melons, berries, oranges
- protein: whey, chicken, nuts and seeds, yogurt, tofu, eggs
- spices: cinnamon, curry, mustard, peppers, sea salt
- other: apple cider vinegar, fresh veggie and fruit juices, green tea, mineral water
Something that always gets confused is that things like apple cider vinegar and citrus fruits are very acidic. But the minerals they leave behind after they are digested help take away hydrogen ions making them alkaline.
Our bodies need both acid-forming and alkaline-forming foods and waters, but the general proportion to aim for is 80% alkaline and 20% acidic.
As luck would have it, many of the alkaline foods are powerful antioxidants.
Once again, don’t just take what you’ve heard here and run with it. Do some Googling and get more information and background about all of this.
You’ll find that most people today, (maybe yourself included) live in an extreme state of acidosis. And having your chemistry too far on that side of the equation leads to many of the serious illnesses and diseases that we see in the world today.
☆ Remember: Gout is simple…acid or alkaline.

“I know your pain. Let me help you kill your gout for good! And teach you to advocate for yourself and take ownership of your gout recovery, by showing you how to live the gout-free lifestyle.” Two decades ago, Bert Middleton found himself diagnosed with gout. Like 8.3 million other people in the United States (approximately 4% of the population), he struggled helplessly with the physical, emotional, social, and financial impact that gout left unchecked can have on your life. Prescription drugs were of limited help… And the terrible pain of regular gout attacks left him unable to enjoy even the simplest daily pleasures. His marriage was suffering. His finances were spiraling due to the impact gout had on his ability to work. And maintaining a social life was often nearly impossible. Tophi surgeries left him in terrible pain. And he found himself depressed … and angry … that gout was stealing years of his life.
Until one day, after hundreds of hours of research and self-experimentation, Bert finally had a breakthrough and created a blueprint for a way of living that would prove to be “the answer” to living gout-free for nearly a decade now. Today, Bert and his “Gout Wife” Sharon devote their evenings and weekends to educating other gout sufferers on how to live the gout-free lifestyle. Showing others his 911 Emergency Response Gout Recovery Plan for getting PAINFUL gout attacks under control in as little as 4 hours. And then, how to make daily choices that keep gout under control for GOOD! So you can finally start LIVING again!
