Sleep Apnea? …Causes Gout?
Recently, I was lucky enough to engage in a conversion about sleep apnea and gout with a person on a gout forum who turned out to be Burton Abrams.
He is the author of “The Perils Of Sleep Anpea – An Undiagnosed Epidemic”. With a little work we were able to connect by email.
Being the gout guy that I am, I was completely fascinated when he related that he considers his gout “cured” after getting his sleep apnea under control…then I was alarmed. He passed on a link to his article “Curing Gout – My Personal Discovery”. Here is the part of the article that really got my attention:
“…it appears that almost everyone with gout also has sleep apnea. While overcoming your gout is important to achieve, overcoming your sleep apnea is even more important because sleep apnea can have life-threatening consequences over the long term, such as high blood pressure, coronary artery disease, heart arrhythmia, heart attack, stroke, diabetes, kidney disease, depression, Alzheimer’s disease, and even sudden death…”
And That Was About All It Took…
…To Think of Sleep Apnea in a Whole New Way
Since in embarking on my gout crusade earlier last year, I’ve done so much research and learned so much, I’ve become so much healthier. With Burton’s help I’ve gained a lot of insight to the causes of gout and that made me step up my commitment to learning to breathe more fully, deeply, and completely – and Qigong has been a big help for that.

Bert, It was a great class you gave at Natural Grocers. You said if I e-mailed you would send me the receipe for a gout attack for my brother. Thank you again. Phyllis

What else about Sleep Apnea
Let’s understand sleep apnea a little more, this is from MayoClinic.com:
“Sleep apnea is a potentially serious sleep disorder in which breathing repeatedly stops and starts. You may have sleep apnea if you snore loudly and you feel tired even after a full night’s sleep. Studies also show that obstructive sleep apnea is associated with increased risk of atrial fibrillation, congestive heart failure and other vascular diseases.”
Since I’ve won the War on Gout at this point, I’m tempted to rest on my laurels. However, greater wisdom has prevailed and I’m going to bring it up with my doctor on my next testing. Thanks Burton!
☆ Remember! What’s going on when you’re asleep – or supposed to be asleep might just be the cause of your gout. Sleep apnea is something to find out more about.

“I know your pain. Let me help you kill your gout for good! And teach you to advocate for yourself and take ownership of your gout recovery, by showing you how to live the gout-free lifestyle.” Two decades ago, Bert Middleton found himself diagnosed with gout. Like 8.3 million other people in the United States (approximately 4% of the population), he struggled helplessly with the physical, emotional, social, and financial impact that gout left unchecked can have on your life. Prescription drugs were of limited help… And the terrible pain of regular gout attacks left him unable to enjoy even the simplest daily pleasures. His marriage was suffering. His finances were spiraling due to the impact gout had on his ability to work. And maintaining a social life was often nearly impossible. Tophi surgeries left him in terrible pain. And he found himself depressed … and angry … that gout was stealing years of his life.
Until one day, after hundreds of hours of research and self-experimentation, Bert finally had a breakthrough and created a blueprint for a way of living that would prove to be “the answer” to living gout-free for nearly a decade now. Today, Bert and his “Gout Wife” Sharon devote their evenings and weekends to educating other gout sufferers on how to live the gout-free lifestyle. Showing others his 911 Emergency Response Gout Recovery Plan for getting PAINFUL gout attacks under control in as little as 4 hours. And then, how to make daily choices that keep gout under control for GOOD! So you can finally start LIVING again!
