“How Do Good Dietary Fats Help With Gout?”

line-break* * *

Most of us with gout live our lives believing the popular propaganda that fats are bad for us…nothing could be further from the truth.  Dispelling that myth made for a really great gout conference call.  Learning how to use good healthy fats to kill gout is what this call and post is all about.

Dietary Fats Help with Gout…how?

There are three macronutrients; carbohydrates, proteins, and fats.  We need all of them.  The funny thing about it all is that we can actually live without the carbohydrates – proteins are converted into glucose by the process of gluconeogenesis.  But, make no mistake -glucose is sugar.  And in this world, we have plenty of sources of sugar.

Out bodies run on glucose…or “ketones”.  And they might even run better on ketones and that is why the Keto diet has become so popular.  But that is a topic for another post.  The crazy thing is, a keto diet might be just perfect diet for gout; low glycemic, low protein, big energy.

How do dietary fats help with gout?  There are two main ways – for both gout prevention, and as a remedy for gout attacks.  Here they are:

  1. The good healthy fats we eat have everything to do with the quality of our hormones – i.e. how well we produce hormones, the strength of our hormones, and the communication function of those hormones.  There is a hormone-like substance called “prostaglandins” that help our bodies healthfully inflame and anti-inflame.  This is a big deal when your are having a gout attack – it has everything to do with how long the attack might last, how bad it might get, and how quickly it passes.
  2. In a more preventative way, healthy fats from good sources provide a stable, long lasting source of energy.  That can be important to keep us from eating high glycemic junk foods that spike our blood sugar and insulin.  But also those healthy fats help to regulate the blood sugar/glucose.  That is critical because a certain kind of carbohydrate called fructose is converted into uric acid in the liver.  High fructose corn syrup is a refined, very toxic kind of sugar found in lots of junk food.  However, fructose is the sugar found in healthy fruits we eat.  So even with fruit, we have to be careful.

Types of Dietary Fats

To make it easy, there are 3 kinds of fats.  We need all three; saturated fats, monounsaturated fats, and poly-unsaturated fats.

  • Good saturated fats are butter, coconut oil, lard, beef tallow, and duck fat.  These stay solid at room temp and are good for high heat and frying.  The world was hoodwinked 50 years ago by Big Food to think we needed hydrogenated vegetable oils…they are transfats – pure poison – avoid them!
  • Monounsaturated fats are olives and olive oil, avocados and avocado oil, pistachios, pumpkin seeds, and sunflower seeds.  These oils will coagulate when refrigerated, but stay liquid at room temp.  They are more delicate and should not be heated.
  • Good sources of poly-unsaturated fats are oily fishes like salmon and tuna, walnuts and walnut oil, flax seed and flax seed oils.  They are delicate and need to be protected from light and should be refrigerated.

Don’t be fooled into thinking that if you eat fat, it will make you fat.  That is another myth that we were sold and it’s not true.  Make a study of fats and start experimenting.  Just remember: “Everything is Better with Butter!”

Gout Killers Unite!

Gout Killer Rob was on the call with confirmation about how fats have been a welcome addition to his current diet.  Learning to use fats correctly is starting to have a positive effect on society.  Learning to move away from the high glycemic/high carbohydrate foods is the wave of killing gout in the future.

Stop Gout Pain Now

Bottom-line:  Dietary fats help with gout, no doubt about it.  They just need to be understood and used correctly.

Bert Middleton

“I know your pain. Let me help you kill your gout for good!  And teach you to advocate for yourself and take ownership of your gout recovery, by showing you how to live the gout-free lifestyle.” Two decades ago, Bert Middleton found himself diagnosed with gout. Like 8.3 million other people in the United States (approximately 4% of the population), he struggled helplessly with the physical, emotional, social, and financial impact that gout left unchecked can have on your life. Prescription drugs were of limited help… And the terrible pain of regular gout attacks left him unable to enjoy even the simplest daily pleasures. His marriage was suffering. His finances were spiraling due to the impact gout had on his ability to work. And maintaining a social life was often nearly impossible. Tophi surgeries left him in terrible pain.  And he found himself depressed … and angry … that gout was stealing years of his life.

Until one day, after hundreds of hours of research and self-experimentation, Bert finally had a breakthrough and created a blueprint for a way of living that would prove to be “the answer” to living gout-free for nearly a decade now. Today, Bert and his “Gout Wife” Sharon devote their evenings and weekends to educating other gout sufferers on how to live the gout-free lifestyle. Showing others his 911 Emergency Response Gout Recovery Plan for getting PAINFUL gout attacks under control in as little as 4 hours. And then, how to make daily choices that keep gout under control for GOOD! So you can finally start LIVING again!
